Ouyen Deployment

gwmwater_logoThe first major deployment of AquaArmour™ occurred for Grampians Wimmera Mallee Water (GWMWater) in Ouyen, north-west Victoria, Australia, where evaporation can reach up to two metres per annum.

The installation of 2 hectares of AquaArmour™ modules onto a four hectare dam at Ouyen is expected to save enough water to equal 11 Olympic size swimming pools annually.

Mr. John Martin, Executive Manager of Sustainable Water & Infrastructure at GWMWater, acknowledged that AquaArmour™ would deliver significant evaporation savings and is another powerful tool in securing regional water supplies. At the AquaArmour™ launch, Mr. Martin added; "We’ve just completed piping the leaky channels across the region, which will see up to 150 thousand megalitres of water saved annually. Despite this, we still lose up to 680 megalitres every year to evaporation in smaller reservoirs within the pipeline area. With AquaArmour™ deployed onto 2 hectares of water storage, we have the potential to save up to 16% of Ouyen’s residential annual water use, and if we were to cover both water storages (total of 8 hectares), it could save up to two-thirds of the town’s residential annual water use."
